Alaska is the 49th state of the United States, admitted into the union in 1959. It is the largest of all the 50 states in terms of area, and the 49th largest in terms of population. Crime rates in Alaska are very high, with larceny theft having the highest rates, and homicide having the lowest. Alaska is also rife with crimes based on gender inequality - including sexual assault and harassment, and discrimination against women. That being said, Alaska has seen the lowest crime rates in over 40 years, the result of a downward trend that started in 2018.
