Illinois is the 21st state of the United States, admitted into the union in the year 1818. It is the 25th largest of all the 50 states in terms of area, and the 6th largest in terms of population. Often regarded as a microcosm of the country - the state has a little of just about every feature of the US. Crime is rampant in the state - it is one of the top 19 states where the crime rate is higher than 400 for every 100,000 persons. The most commonly-occurring crimes include aggravated assault, robberies and homicide - majority of which is concentrated in and around urban areas.
