Idaho is the 43rd state of the United States, admitted into the union in the year 1890. It is the 14th largest of all the 50 states in terms of area, and the 39th largest in terms of population. It is one of the nine states in the country that have less than 250 violent crimes for every 100,000 residents. Crime levels are overall low in the state, though there is a considerable difference between crimes against people and crimes against property - while one instance of the former is reported every 29.4 minutes, one instance of the latter is reported every 14.6 minutes. In general, the overall crime rate has dropped for the fourth consecutive year.
