Connecticut is the 5th state of the United States, admitted into the union in the year 1788. It is the 48th largest of all the 50 states in terms of area, and the 29th largest in terms of population. Like many of its sister states in the New England area, Connecticut has some of the country's lowest crime rates, and is regarded among the safest of states. The legal system in Connecticut is also considered to be complex. Burglary and motor theft are the highest-occurring crimes - and yet much below the national average.
