Kentucky is the 15th state of the United States, admitted into the union in the year 1792. It is the 37th largest of all the 50 states in terms of area, and the 26th largest in terms of population. Kentucky has a violent crime rate of over 459 reported incidents per 100,000 people - fairly higher than the national average. Much of this is attributed towards the state’s high poverty rate - which at around 15% is among the highest in the country. Kentucky also has a higher unemployment rate of 4.4%. While the crime rate had been falling steadily since 2008, it increased in 2020.
