Maine has about 4,000 actively practicing attorneys, working across the private and public sectors and employed in a variety of places from government offices to solo practices to law firms of all sizes. The state is also home to a variety of legal assistance services spread across a variety of areas. The Disability Rights Maine helps those with disabilities get help, while the Immigrant Legal Advocacy Project helps sort out low-income immigrant groups. The Legal Services for the Elderly helps fix Medicare for those aged 60 and above. Other institutions help low-income groups get low cost and/or free assistance.
